Setting up a voice session based on users’ preference is a fundamental requirement in future multi-mode heterogeneous wireless network. In the past, a smart session selection (S3) scheme is presented to meet this requirement. S3 abstracts the voice session selection between users as a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem, and copes with the problem by using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to select a best network connection that satisfy quality constraint and users’ preference.
However, AHP is inherently difficult to express user’s preference due to its restriction in preference weighting. This study overcomes the vagueness in the preferences of AHP by using Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) to recommend a network connection with assistance of user profile and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) signaling. An example is illustrated to show that FAHP can successfully select a good network connection that fulfills the requirement of users.
